Environmental Policy

We have planted many small woodlands and hedges over the past 35 years and we have been runners up in the Scottish Finest Woodlands award. Currently we are involved in a wetland creation scheme aimed at re-establishing breeding lapwings to the area. Knockbain is one of the best sites in Scotland to view Red Kites and we have recorded over 70 species of birds here, including the occasional Osprey. As part of the farm environmental policy, the house features a carbon neutral wood fired central heating and hot water system, wood burning stoves and a heat recovery ventilation system. All wood fuel is grown on the farm.
