Knockbain Farm

Knockbain House is situated on David and Denise Lockett's large, working mixed farm. It consists of 700 acres of rolling grassland and woodlands with some arable land in the Strathpeffer valley. We produce top quality beef from a herd of suckler cows, and lamb from 400 breeding sheep together with barley for Scotch whisky and seed potatoes.

We have planted many small woodlands and hedges over the past 35 years and we have been runners up in the Scottish Finest Woodlands awards.

Currently we are involved in a wetland creation scheme aimed at re-establishing breeding lapwings to the area. Knockbain House is one of the best sites in Scotland to view Red Kites and we have recorded over 70 species of birds here, including Waxwings and the occasional Osprey.

As part of the farm environmental policy, the house features a carbon neutral wood fired central heating and hot water system. All wood fuel is grown on the farm and it feeds our wood burning stoves and a heat recovery ventilation system. We're very happy to take our guests around the farm so they can see it for themselves.

We told you we had a wonderful country setting!
